Gamete and embryo importing

Exit from the European Union and the end of the transition period at 11pm on 30 June 2021, has led to changes in HFEA requirements around import and export of gametes and embryos to and from clinics in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It has also led to changes in the ITE import certificate application scheme.

The ITE import certificate application form is held in the licensing application function in the centre-restricted area of the Clinic Portal.

Please use this flow chart to determine whether a country is a third country relative to your centre’s location, and therefore whether you need ITE import certificate authorisation to make an import from a tissue establishment in the country.
