The HFEA will be publishing an update to the 9th Edition of the Code of Practice in October 2021. This is a revision rather than a new edition, and we will not be introducing anything that will mean substantial changes to practice.
We would like to get your feedback on some areas of the guidance that we will be addressing, which includes:
- e-consent
- partner-to-partner donation
- the definition of a ‘family ‘for the 10-family limit policy
- gamete and embryo storage
- witnessing protocols
- medicines management
As part of this update we will also be incorporating information that has been issued in Clinic Focus articles to ensure all guidance is in one place.
We have produced a survey which is open to anyone who uses the Code. The survey is anonymous, but if you would like to provide more detailed feedback, please contact Emily Tiemann, Regulatory Policy Manager at Emily.Tiemann@HFEA.GOV.UK.
Please share this survey with the relevant colleagues in your clinic – we would really appreciate your feedback, and your input will inform our ongoing work.
The survey should take about 20-30 minutes to complete, and it is available here:
Code of Practice update 2021: clinic survey
If a question is not relevant to you or your clinic you can skip and go to the next relevant question. The survey is open until Monday 18 January 2021.
Publication date: 9 April 2026
